ABOUT C.A.R.E.S.

C.A.R.E.S., Inc. is a nonprofit corporation recognized under section 501(c)(3) that was created to provide educational funding for underprivileged children within communities.
The organization takes its name from the pilot school it supported. C.A.R.E.S. is an acronym for the Christian A. Richards Elementary School, which is situated in Clay Ashland, Liberia. This school is named in honor of Christian A. Richards, Sr., who served as a deacon at Grace Episcopal Church in Clay Ashland, Liberia. Following his passing in 1973, Grace Episcopal Church dedicated a building as the Christian A. Richards, Sr., Memorial Center in his memory. Currently, the Christian A. Richards, Sr., Memorial Center is part of a two-building complex that accommodates the school, which provides education for children from pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. C.A.R.E.S. offers both academic and nutritional assistance to the underprivileged children of Clay Ashland and its neighboring areas. It operates as a tuition-free, community-oriented school that relies on donations for sponsored students; parents contribute through dues to the parent-teacher association (PTS) in Liberian dollars or through produce that can help nourish the children.
The original memorial center underwent renovations in 2013, funded by the Rosalind Richards Educational Fund. This fund was established in memory of Rosalind Cooper-Richards, the wife of Christian Richards, Sr., who passed away in 2012, to facilitate the transformation of the memorial center into a school. Contributions to this fund remain the primary financial support for the school's ongoing operations.
